Count it all Joy

A Devotional for Women

- Written by Geri G. Cole

From Chapter -26 - page 113 ~ "New Home ~ Old Lesson"

"Moving into the fractured, chopped-up, ugly little house on the pot-holed lime rock road was a traumatic thing for me. It exposed my spoiled, selfish attitude. We had left the home that sat away from everything, nestled amidst 300 acres, to live on a 50-foot lot. We left a three bedroom, two bath comfortable home with a large picture window overlooking the pasture and farm. I loved watching the boys' horseback riding across the pasture. Now, here we were in this 900 square foot former duplex. The people who had tried to adapt it to a single-family dwelling had obviously had no construction ability nor comprehension. The little place had been mutilated unmercifully. There were walls that didn't quite meet the ceiling. A jalousie window somehow crammed into the middle of it disfigured the front door. In the center of the living room, the floor rippled with a circle of glued-on linoleum. The yard was squishy with thick, high grass growing in soggy, wet ground., but it was easy to grow things. Oh! And the "master bedroom" was so small I had to crawl over the bed to make it up.

None of us like change, but we always hope for things to get better. I didn't want to leave the farm. It had become home, in spite of the extremely prolific breed of flies that flourished in the chicken manure covering the whole farm. Every time a door opened, they charged in. When the door closed, they all sat down - or up; sometimes they all wanted to sit upside down on the ceiling. Do you know what it's like to have church five times a week in a house that fills with flies every time the doors are opened? Have you ever tried to kill 4,389 flies that were all moving at the same time? Flying? Makes you wonder why I hated to leave it, doesn't it?

Well, Dan had heard God............"

The fifty-two devotional readings include real-life instruction in the School of the Spirit, with God Himself teaching the lessons in healing, obedience, patience, forgiveness and hope. They summon us to keep looking up - with our eyes fixed on Jesus ~ when the world around us seems to be collapsing.

"Count it all Joy" is fresh and alive, without preachy religiosity. It will bring you laughter and tears and leave you with anticipation in your heart as you learn the awesome lesson that you [really can] Count it all Joy.
